Kimnaras - birds with a head of a man, and kimpurushas - beings with a head of a man and a trunk of a lion or with a head of a man and a trunk of a horse were special (particular) variety of kinnaras (though it is often enough these three titles designate the same beings with a body and a trunk of a man and a head of a horse).

Kimnaras and kimpurushas were werewolves. They were included in the suite of Kubera, or Shiva. According to the fourth song of the "Bhagavata Purana" kimnaras and kimpurushas"have milked dry from the Earth such mystic forces which give the opportunity to the owners to vanish from sight suddenly and to occur again, but in another appearance". Translator C. Bhaktivedanta Svami Prabhupada names such forces "ishita".

In the same Old Indian book (1 song, 16 head) and in the second book of the "Mahabharata" ("Sabha Parva") it speaks that kimpurushas, and, possibly, together with them kinnaras and kimnaras, settled existing from time immemorial behind the northern slope of the Himalayas
Kimpurusha-adini, or Kimpurusha-varsha country, conquered by Ardzhuna.
