Kinnaras- celestial musicians and singers with wings and head of a horse from Indian legends
Disappeared inhabitants of the Earth > Chimeras

Kinnaras belong to inhabiting "heaven" semidivine winged beings with a trunk of a man and a head of a horse. Their other names: Vayamukha, Ashvamukha, Turangavaktra (horse-headed) and Mayu (sanskr. Mayu - horse).
Kinnaras more often associate with the god of wealth Kubera who lived by Kailas mount. He was also given an epithet "the lord of kinnaras". In the first book of the "Mahabharata" it speaks kinnaras lived on the Meru and Mandara mounts where they were in a service for Indra. As well as gandharvas, they were celestial musicians and singers.
According the "Skanda Purana" kinnaras took part in military operations against daityas and danavas on the side of the leader of adityas Indra, forming the separate detachment.
Images of playing musical instruments winged kinnaras (usually in Indra company) remain on bas-reliefs of temples VII - the beginning of IX centuries in Vietnam, Cambodia and India (Mamalipuram, VII century), Sri Lanka and Indonesia (Borobudur, the end of VIII - the beginning of IX century).
